Welcome to Premier Pilates
"Joseph Pilates' exercise changes our bodies, minds, and spirits. It is a dance for life that never fails to inspire those who have practiced for years as well as those who have just discovered it's magic."

Pilates is a physical fitness system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates in Germany. As of 2010, there were 11 million people who practiced the discipline regularly and 14,000 instructors in the United States. Joseph Pilates called his method Contrology because he believed his method uses the mind to control the muscles. The program focuses on the core postural muscles which help keep the body balanced and which are essential to providing support for the spine. In particular, Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, and aim to strengthen the deep torso muscles referred to as the core.
There are two ways to exercise in pilates. Today, many people focus on the mat exercises. These exercises are designed so that your body uses its own weight as resistance. The other method of pilates uses a variety of apparatus to tone and strengthen the body, again using the principle of resistance. Pilates programs follow a set sequence, with exercises flowing from one to another in a natural progression, just as Joseph Pilates designed them. Beginners start with basic exercises and build up to include additional exercises and more advanced positioning.
